Spell Description

You can cast this spell only at night.

Choose one corpses of a medium or small humanoids within range. The corpse becomes an undead revenant (see below) under your control, and you must select a special trait for the creature:

  • Revenant Ghast. Any creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of the ghast must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the start of its next turn. Also, when the ghast takes the attack action, it can make two attacks with its ghoul claw attack (see below) and it has advantage on attacks against bloodied creatures.

  • Revenant Mummy. The mummy is vulnerable to fire damage and can use either the chocking sands action or rotting fist action on its turns.

  • Revenant Wight. The wight can wear all types of armour, shields, and helmets and use any type of weapon. When taking the attack action, the wight can make two attacks with weapons instead of one. Or the wight can make a weapon attack as well as an attack with its life drain action (see below).

Alternatively, you can cast this spell on any three corpses of medium or small humanoids, creating undead ghouls instead (see template below).

As a bonus action on each of your turns, you can mentally command any creature you animated with this spell if the creature is within 120 feet of you (if you control multiple creatures, you can command any or all of them at the same time, issuing the same command to each one). You decide what action the creature will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a general command, such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. The creature takes its turn immediately after your turn. If you issue no commands, the creature only defends itself against hostile creatures. Once given an order, the creature continues to follow it until its task is complete.

A creature is under your control until you cast this spell again or until 24 hours have passed, after which it stops obeying any command you've given it.

When you cast this spell, you can choose to target the undead creature(s) already under your control in place of a corpse to reassume control over the creature(s) instead. If you cast the spell to reassume control, the spell’s casting time changes to 1 action and you do not need to provide the material component.
