Spell Description

You devastate the spiritual energy of a creature you can see within range.

You target one creature within range. The creature must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or take 8d10 necrotic damage or half as much on a successful saving throw. A willing creature can automatically fail this saving throw and takes maximum damage.

The devastated spiritual energy forms into a small sliver of negative energy storing the damage dealt to the target (e.g. if the target had 21 hit points remaining when it was targeted by this spell, the sliver of negative energy is worth that much). You can immediately have this sliver of negative energy target another creature or have it dissipate. The new target suffers a special effect depending on its creature type:

  • Aberration, Construct, Fiend, Undead. The target regains hit points equal to the hit point value of the negative energy sliver.

  • Celestial, fey, plant. The target must must make a Charisma saving throw or become diseased and take necrotic damage equal to the hit point value of the negative energy sliver. The creature makes this saving throw with disadvantage. On a successful saving throw, the creature takes half this damage and is not diseased.

  • All other creature types. The target must make a Charisma saving throw or take 8d10 necrotic damage.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage increases by 2d10 for each slot level above 5th.
