You treat the following weapons as if they have the long weapon property: Hunting spear, Spear, Trident, Quarterstaff, War spear.

While you are wielding a long weapon hostile creatures provoke an opportunity attack from you when they enter your reach. You must make this opportunity attack with a long weapon that you are wielding. If you hit the target, this opportunity attack is an automatic critical hit if the triggering creature moved more than 30 feet this turn or took the dash action.
