You can don or doff a regular shield or a tower shield as a bonus action instead of an action.

Also, when wielding a shield and you use either the shield’s reaction or a reaction using a parry weapon to parry, you can as part of the reaction make a special melee attack with your shield against the triggering creature if it is within 5 feet of you, a shield slam:

• Shield Slam. For this attack, treat the shield as a simple melee weapon with the crushing and mass properties that deal 1d4 bludgeoning damage on a hit.
