Spell Description

You attempt to turn one creature that you can see within range into stone. The target is gradually hampered by the effect as its flesh begins to harden. When you cast this spell and at the end of each of its turns, the target must make a Constitution saving throw. If the target successfully saves against this spell three times, the spell ends. If the target instead fails its saving throw three times, it stops making any further saving throws. The successes and failures don't need to be consecutive; keep track of both until the target collects three of a kind.

Each time a creature fails a saving throw against the spell, it suffers one of the following effects:

  • The first time the target fails a saving throw, the target becomes fatigued for the duration.

  • The second time the target fails its saving throw, it becomes restrained for the duration.

  • If it fails its saves three times, it is turned to stone and subjected to the petrified condition for the duration. If the creature is physically broken while petrified, it suffers from similar deformities if it reverts to its original state.

If you maintain your concentration on this spell for the entire possible duration, a creature still affected by the spell is turned to stone until the effect is removed. Only a wish spell or a remove curse spell can remove this effect.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 9th level, you can use an action to target an additional creature on subsequent turns with this spell for the duration.
