Dragon Companion As a dragon
rider, you gain the service of a dragon companion that is bound to you. You and your
dragon companion understand each other regardless of language and you have an
instinctive bond with it that allows you to fight as a seamless unit. In combat, the
dragon companion shares your initiative count and you take your turns
simultaneously. As an action on its turn, The dragon companion can move, take
actions, and use its reaction on its own, though it can only make a bite
attack when it takes the attack action. In addition, the dragon companion can
use an action to dash, dodge, disengage or help. The DM may allow the dragon
companion to take other actions that make sense, such as action required to
interact with certain objects. If you are incapacitated, the dragon companion
can take any action of its choice on your turn. The following
rules apply to your dragon companion: •
The dragon companion uses the
dragon companion template. •
If you are medium or smaller, you
can ride your dragon companion as a mount. •
The dragon companion has a number
of hit dice [d10s] equal to your fighter level. •
When you first gain this feature,
choose a draconic heritage (see below) for your dragon which determines the
damage type of the companion’s breath weapon as well as the companion’s
damage immunity. •
If the dragon companion dies, you
can perform a 1-hour ritual to bring the companion back to life with 1 hit
point. On you turn,
you can use an action or a bonus action to draw on your bond with the dragon
companion: •
Claws.
You can use a bonus action to allow the animal companion to make two dragon
claw attack actions when it takes the attack action on this turn instead of
the dragon bite attack action. •
Tail Swipe.
You can use your action to allow the dragon companion to make a dragon tail
attack when it takes the attack action instead of its dragon bite attack
action. •
Breath Weapon.
You can use your action to allow the dragon companion to make a dragon breath
attack when it takes the attack action instead of its dragon bite action.
Once you have used this action, you cannot use it again until you finish a
long rest. Draconic

Dragon Flight When you use your second wind feature, you can also have your
dragon companion regain the same amount of hit points and fly up to its speed
without provoking opportunity attacks. Interwoven fate Starting at 10th level, your life is bound to that of your dragon
companion, granting you the following benefits: •
Your dragon companion’s Strength
becomes 16 instead of 14. •
Whenever you are within 5 feet of
your dragon companion and it takes damage, you can grant the companion
resistance to all damage from a damage source. If you do so, you take the
same amount of damage as the dragon companion. •
You can use your action to allow
the dragon companion to take the bite attack action as well as two claw
attack actions when it uses an attack action on this turn. •
The companion’s breath attack is
now a 30-foot cone instead and its damage increases from 3d10 to 4d10. Drakewarden Beginning at 15th level, the bond you have with your dragon
companion strengthens and grants you the following benefits: •
Your dragon companion’s Strength
becomes 18 instead of 16. •
You gain resistance to the damage
type of your companion’s draconic heritage. •
When you use second wind with your
dragon flight feature, your dragon companion can also use its breath attack
as an action before or after it moves. This allows the companion to use its
breath attack even if it has already used it and does not count against the
dragon’s once per long rest use of the breath attack. •
You can use your action to allow
the dragon companion to take the bite attack action as well as two claw
attack actions and a tail swipe when it uses an attack action on this turn. •
The companion’s breath
attack is now a 60-foot cone instead and its damage increases from 4d10 to
6d10. |
